The joys of planning
|
A 4 to 5 week trip travelling the Canning Stock Rout. travelling about nearly 4,000 km north then back again.
The decision for this trip came about in 2019 with the dates planed for June, July, August 2020. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to defer to 2021. 2021 comes along the Canning Stock Route is still closed so we need another route. |
20th May 2021
Our first true planning date started with a BBQ, with many interesting conversations.
By the end of this night a list of who was taking what was compiled with a 20 plus minute discussion about water.. In the outback you can never have too much but then some calculations working out how much water would be required, in the end this discussion ended with one party thinking the other party will be carrying excessive water and the other party saying you can never have too much water so each would make their own call on water

The group got together on this night without me as I was on night shift.
The plan came to life a bit more...
Campsites had to be booked straight away and reworked the original plan, now that the CSR was closed and we needed to book specific dates for camping, So I got home around seven am to Nathan saying we need to get sites booked and I could not go to bed till it was sorted, so I now have an update of where we are going, if somewhat blurred and it goes something like.....
Our first night will now be Peak Hill
Then Karijini National Park with 3 different campsites over 5 nights.
Next stop somewhere before Broome at a free campsite.

We already had campsites for 25th June to 1st July booked.
Next steps were to lock in dates from Karijini to Purnululu.
Around and around we went trying to work out dates and then near the end of the night we looked at when M had to be back at school, oops we needed to drop a couple of nights for the leg going up.
So at the end of the night we had all the way to the 10th July locked in with just one booking yet to be made, which could not be done until I had a response in relation to Mimbi Caves.

The final route planning, Trying to workout dates and locations on a road that is not a standard road can be painful. We added a day in one as a just incase... One discussion came up about laundromats and we tried to find them but to no avail. (Later found on Wiki Camps.

Our food planning session started with an introduction to our mascots, these guys kept our guys entertained.
OMG the things to work out.... Meal prep was fun working out what meals we would make and freeze, we worked out 12 meals which is not bad for a 28 day trip, these will be used for late stops or after a long day and we can't be a*sed cooking. So a visit to Costco to check it out, then a bulk shop at Costco and the rest from Coles.... What a list that it turned out to be. |

We are all now on leave .

Eeeek 3 sleeps to go.
Food shopping is not complete, we just have the last minute perishables to get. Thursday morning job.
This night was getting all the food we had purchased at this stage to one location and work out how to pack it.
OMG..... we may not have room for it all.... I have faith in the "master packer" if you know us you will know who we are talking about and it ain't me.
The discussion of personal packing and what is necessary and not necessary was interesting. Lets just say I think I had good recommendations. I will also say that when I got home I rethought my clothes packing and removed some items.

One sleep to go
We did our last little shop of fruit and vegies and a couple of missed items.
While the final packing was being done, I disappeared off home to stay out of the way.
The boys somehow managed to get everything in. Nathan came home and we put the last of our stuff in the car with only a few items left to go in when we get up in the morning. The alarm is set for 4am
