Today was different to the other days where I have had a guide taking me around and telling me about the history of the area, perhaps it was because having a female guide Miss Susie made a big difference.
A late start to the day 9am and off on the tour, along the way we traveled through the real streets of Alexandria, where I got to see what it really is like as opposed to seeing the touristy view. Took Took's are interesting here, they don't follow the flow of traffic and are actually illegal in Egypt, the pic here is of them coming our direction in a one way street, plus the fact that we are driving on active Tram lines. There was no photography in the catacombs which I have come used to in many other sites, from there we went to Pompey's Pillar were I found a ginger ninja kitten pretending to be a sphinx, the last time I tried to pat a cat here it scratched me so I gave this little cutie a bit of space. One request I had was to dip my toes into the Mediterranean Sea, as part of visiting the Montazah Gardens we made a special trip to the beach and sat and had coffee, with the freedom to visit beaches in Australia the thought of having to pay to access a beach amazed me, probably seasoned travelers are aware of this, the water was cold, so I only went up to my ankles and the coffee was perfect. Lunch was really enjoyable not just because of the food but more to do with having a conversation with someone over a meal which I have not really had since arriving in Egypt. It was an early arrival back to the hotel where I enjoyed an afternoon nap and woke up to rain and am now wearing slippers and a very thick woolly jumper, who would have thought. |
