Change of plans today. To enable us to have a packed lunch for a full day tour Radwan swapped our itinerary around, we are now going to visit Abydos and Dandara Temple. If anyone told me that Egypt did not have dusty roads I would not have believed them. Some of the main roads are lined with bougainvillea in bloom it was amazing, but still the villages are dusty.
The trip to Abydos took hours, and the last leg of the journey was by security escort. Not that they would have provided much help if something had happened as they rushed ahead of us, but nothing happened, after visiting the temple there was no sign of the security detail to escort us back, goes to show that it was all just for show. Radwan and my driver were amused when I asked them to stop at a sign to take a picture, a rail crossing at Abydos. We then took the dessert road to Dandara, now this is a road that I expected to see, with the conversation going on in the front seat between my driver and Radwan, I got the impression that a wrong turn was taken, thankfully it was not so, they had a heated discussion about something, who know what. Dandara, I really liked this monument, maybe because the god Hathor was a female with cow features, this also had reliefs of Cleopatra the 7th with is the Cleopatra that is well known, you can see a relief with a child in between two taller peeps Cleopatra is on the left and here child Cesarean. There was also the list of all the crowns of Egypt. |
