Today is the day we have lunch at the highest pub in Africa, 2,800 meters above sea level . The coach took us to Unterberg, which translates to Under the Mountains(obviously), where we met our guides and climbed onto our 4 wheel drives, Our guide's name was Rafael. There was five of us from the tour in our vehicle a Toyota of some sorts, which seemed as if at any moment the real tailgate would fall off. Three Aussies, a Finnish and a Mexican all went up a hill, sounds like it could be a start to a good joke, it was no joke the 4 wheel drives were almost a necessity to get up the pass, I would not attempt it in a normal sedan, although the South African Taxis, which are like a Tarago were making their way up full of people, the video clips(to be attached) show some of the extent of the drives, apologies for the filming not being smooth, we were thrown around a bit.. We went through the boarder crossing in the same way as we did for the South Africa/Swaziland crossings, with a small difference. The departure point from South Africa was at the base of Sani Pass, with the entry point to Lesotho was at the top. Until you make the pass you don't fully understand why it is like that, there is about 48 K's between the two crossings, if they were close together the time it would take for the officials to travel each day would be about one and a half hours each way and it is not an easy drive. It took us about two and a half hours to reach the Lesotho border crossing, where our passports were stamped for entry and exit at the same time. We then travelled 6 K's to the nearest village and was taken inside of a rondavel, which is the dwelling that they live in, not very big apparently it sleeps five, we were also given a taste of their bread and beer. The bread was nice, Nathan didn't mind the beer, although there were lots of funny faces being pulled as others were tasting it. We then went to the pub for lunch, it was a simple meal of Chicken, rice and salad, which we all enjoyed, by this time I was getting light headed from the altitude, I had to keep reminding myself to take deep breaths. We had a few pics taken and then made our way down, we just about rolled down with lots of braking. Then back to our accommodation for some down time.
