Nathan and I had been given a fantastic opportunity to go to South Africa. Nathan's sister, Soulla had won "The Africa Safari Co/Manly Sea Eagles Competition" and was unable to take the opportunity. We were very fortunate when Soulla offered the trip to us.
We found out late January and set the date as 19th September 2015. A whooping seven and a half months to wait. We had 1 passport to organise, travel vaccinations, travel insurance and lots of research to see where we are going and additional things we would like to do. Plenty of time........ The team at The African Safari Co were very helpful with answering my questions, me having a bit of OCD when I travel, needing to know everything, right down to what time we will be picked up and taken to Cape Town airport so that we can get as much in the day as we can. My wonderful fear of being late does crazy things to me, Nathan thinks I am bad at home, wait till he finds out what I am like in another country. I am already trying to work out what time we need to leave home so that we don't miss check in and be delayed in any way (we live approximately 20 mins from the airport.). I have created a section for each day and have provided the itinerary for each day. I will update with photos and comments as we travel, when there is time. |
30th August 2015 (3 weeks to go)
Everything has been organised, the travel documents have arrived, we searched Rebel Sports in Perth and brought the last two Manly hats in their WA State stores. I thought a great opportunity to let our family know what our travel plans are while we are away was via a web site, with family East, Far North East and South of us what better way to keep everyone up to date and let them know we are safe and enjoying a trip of a lifetime, I still don't think I could ever thank Soulla enough...... I am still stressed about being late to the airport. 5th September 2015 (2 weeks to go)
But who is counting, starting to look at the weather forecasts, nice spring weather Johannesburg 20th September 24 max and 7 min Durban 25th September 25 max and 18 min Port Elizabeth 29th September 23 max and 13 min Cape Town (Dive Day) 3rd October 23 max and 15 min Still stressed about getting to the airport, Nathan's mate is going to take us, he is never late and always stirs Nathan about how much time it takes him to do anything, for those that know Nathan well, stop nodding your heads :) . 13th September 2015 (1 week to go)
Less than a week to go, this time next week we will be pretty close to touching down in Johannesburg. I have just remembered to register with smart traveler, tag Soulla and Mum you guys are it. Nathan is away at manager’s conference for the week and he fly’s home on Thursday night. I now have 4 days to sort through and pack and repack, and try to remember everything we need to take with us, without him saying what we do and don’t need. I am going to attempt to travel light, which means I leave my hair straightener at home, I think there will be many photos of me with my with a hat on, I at least have two hats to choose from. So we fly out at 11:50 pm, still trying to work out the best time to be at the airport, if it wouldn’t send Nathan nuts, I would like to be there by 8:00 pm, that’s not too early (I think). |
